after decades of supporting the rendering community worldwide, the NVIDIA ARC Forum will go out of service, unfortunately, including all of its mental ray sections. That does not mean its vast valuable content is lost, but we will stop hosting it on the original website location.
For those of you who are searching for the download links of the free Mental Ray software, which we did publish in the forum as well, here you are. We include a copy of the text of the original announcement followed by all the links to the pieces of software.
mental ray 3.9 download
The version 1.2 update of the NVIDIA Mental Ray for Maya and NVIDIA Mental Ray for 3ds Max plugins, and the corresponding Mental Ray Standalone distributions are based on the latest major mental ray version 3.14.5.
Hi all, we have fixed the download links for the older 2017 and 2016 versions of the Mental Ray software for Maya. Please keep in mind, those products have been built many years back for systems and hardware available at the time. Have fun!
Please download the new installers below for your platform. We provide versions that are compatible with Maya 2018 and 3ds Max 2018 Mental Ray. We have no plans to upgrade to later versions of Maya or 3ds Max.
Today we are happy to announce that our NVIDIA mental ray Standalone software is now directly available from us at NVIDIA. mental ray Standalone is a command line software necessary for large distributed rendering processes typically on render farms. With a purchase from NVIDIA you receive the current and previous versions of mental ray. This includes immediate access to a private forum with direct support from our development teams. Upgrades of the initial license purchase includes one year of maintenance as well.
Autodesk 3ds Max 2015 and Autodesk Maya 2015 ship with mental ray 3.12 which includes a prototype of our new global illumination engine accelerated by the GPU. We encourage our 3ds Max and Maya users to try it out. Your feedback will help us in making this a big step forward into the future of rendering with mental ray. While the current version is in prototype status and not yet feature complete, we are constantly improving the algorithms and adding new features. Your input is most welcome in this process.
The key idea of the new GI engine is full and exact simulation of the lighting interactions in a scene. This way, we overcome drawbacks from caching techniques and interpolation, and make mental ray more interactive and predictable. The brute-force raytracing approach is accelerated on CUDA capable NVIDIA GPUs making it particularly attractive in this set-up. Its result gets combined seamlessly and automatically with the primary rendering done on the CPU. This ensures full compatibility with existing custom shaders, which do not need to be touched in order to take benefit of the new GI engine.
We would like to hear your feedback and see your renderings using this prototype. Please join our NVIDIA Advanced Rendering forum, if you have not already, and send us your comments and discuss the mental ray GI GPU prototype. The dedicated mental ray GI GPU Prototype forum topic here
I am trying to install 3ds max 2012 and I am getting this error at the very end of the install, this is related to mental ray satelite - error 1920.service mental ray 3.6 satellite for autodesk 3ds max 9 64bit 64-bit' (mi-raysat_3dsmax9_64) failed to start verify that you have sufficent privilleges to start system services
I have been unsuccessfully trying to install 3DS Max 2010 for three days now. I can launch the installer but when the installation is almost complete say nearly 98 percent, this error comes up and cannot proceed with the operation further. I have tried several times but always get this error. I tried uninstalling this partial install and tried to reinstall but this did not help either. I tried to ensure that all the 3DS products were removed by manually checking to ensure that the AutoDesk folder under my AppData in user profile and the 3DS Studio in Documents folder is deleted. Further I ensured that there were no remnants in Common Files folder. Again logging in as administrator, I download the installer after disabling my firewall. The download completes without any issues and installation begins as well. But once it approaches completion, the system decides that I do not have sufficient permissions. What could be wrong? I am the only administrator on this windows 7 machine. Can somebody help me fix this please? Regards.
The probable impacts of radiation on a conceptus consist of prenatal death, intrauterine growth limitation, small head size, strict mental retardation, reduced IQ (intelligence quotient), organ malformation, and childhood cancer. These impacts are relevant to the radiation dose to the conceptus and the phase of conceptus growth at which the exposure takes place. The mentioned issues are summarized in table I (2). Different factors affecting fetal dose during radiological examinations were presented by Karam. These factors included X-ray tube voltage (kVp), tube current (mA), total filtration (mm Al), exposure time (seconds), the tube to the patient distance, the numbers and location of exposures (3).
mental ray 3.9Our first CPU-only rendering benchmark is mental ray 3.9. Owned by Nvidia, it makes up a large percentage of the rendering market for entertainment and visualisation.
As with the mental ray benchmarks, the Z820 significantly outperforms the Z800. Once more, this performance boost varied from scene to scene, with the lowest speed boost being the Evermotion exterior (47% faster) and the highest being the Steampunk Tank (109% faster). Again, four extra CPU cores and the faster Sandy Bridge architecture give the Z820 a significant performance lead over the Z800, and a simply staggering one over the single-socket systems.
As you can see, even for rendering, Hyper-threading does indeed offer performance benefits: slight in the case of the mental ray Hot Rod benchmark; moderate with the mental ray Classroom render; and significant with the V-Ray Light Cycles scene.
Cinebench 11.5Those of you who are familiar with my previous reviews will know that I am not a fan of the synthetic benchmarks that so many other reviewers rely on. This is simply due to the fact that the results they generate do not reflect the performance you would find in real production situations. Despite this, I have had requests from readers to include Cinebench results, so it is the one synthetic benchmark I include. You can download it here.
